Here are DevFish's Florida entries for the 9/8/2008 MSDN Flash. Exact same goodies I sent to the flash publishers. "got .NET goodies" you would like to see in the MSDN Flash? Send me a note at jhealy@microsoft.com. Note: I won't advertise 'pay-for' training classes, sorry. What? You don't subscribe to the MSDN Flash? Then how do you keep up with all the cool developer events in the great state of Florida? Go here for the MSDN Flash subscription: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/flash/default.aspx

Mea culpa, mea culpa.  In the last issue I erroneously a wrong date for the SouthWest Florida Codecamp.  If you’ve met the leader of the SW Florida .NET group, John Dunagan, you may have some inkling of what it means to be on his bad list.  So I must point out now, in lead column fashion, that the correct date for the codecamp is Saturday, September 13.  I’ll be there! For those of you in the Northern part of the state, Jacksonville has the SQL 2008 Community Launch event on Friday, September 12.  That’s two pretty rocking events to get us through the late part of September.  Looking a little further out the Tallahassee CodeCamp IV looks to be another fantastic event.  Registration is now open.

Joe Healy, a.k.a. the DevFish, is the developer evangelist for Florida. He enjoys fishing, games, writing .NET code, and playing with girls, Ryan and Morgan. Visit his blog, or send him e-mail.

SouthWest Florida CodeCamp is September 13

The intrepid Naples.NET group is working toward the very first SouthWest Florida CodeCamp on September 13th (Saturday).  They’re looking at six tracks, and a great bunch of fun.  If you’re interested, be sure and check out more details at http://www.devfish.net/FullBlogItemView.aspx?BlogId=553 .

Don’t Wait – Make sure your web site is ready for IE 8!

Microsoft will soon be releasing IE 8 to render content in its most standards-compliant way by default. Watch out for these issues which may affect your site:  Misaligned Web page layouts, Overlapping text or images, and JavaScript functionality issues and errors.

See Jeff Barnes’ blog for more:  http://blogs.msdn.com/jbarnes/archive/2008/07/03/internet-explorer-8-is-your-web-site-ready-for-ie8.aspx

Jacksonville SQL 2008 Community Launch Event

[Brian Knight] http://pragmaticworks.com/community/blogs/brianknight brings us a powerhouse SQL community launch event geared for SQL Server 2008 on September 12 in Jacksonville, FL.  The last SQL Saturday in Jacksonville was a blast, and sets a great precedent for the SQL 2008 Community Launch.  See http://www.devfish.net/fullblogitemview.aspx?blogid=556 for more details.

Tampa User Experience Group forming

[Jay Kimble] http://theruntime.com/blogs/jaykimble/Default.aspx is putting together a focus group around user experience and .NET.  The first meeting will be on Sept 10.  The focus of the group is the "now" of Ajax and how it integrates with ASP.NET (in all its various forms), and the "future" of Silverlight2, and anything inbetween.  See http://www.theruntime.com/blogs/jaykimble/archive/2008/07/17/tampa-user-experience-tux-user-group-is-coming-september-10th.aspx for more info.
