I hope all the Florida .NET commmunity had a great holiday. In the last MSDN Flash, my celebration of the
Day of Silverlight event
hosted by the
Orlando .NET User group in the last issue was a little premature. The event was a great success with 150 attendees, and over 100 copies of VS2008 Pro installed. But it wasn't easy. The efforts
and nightmares of community volunteer
Shawn Weisfeld to put on a free event often should not go unheralded. So let me tell you a tale of the Orlando Day of Silverlight and VS2008 installfest. The original agenda was Joe Healy installing VS2008 on a 100 plus machines, and two speakers covering Silverilght and WPF respectively. It looked to be
a great Saturday event. Friday morning the Silverlight talker finds out he has to go to the hospital for surgery, and the the WPF speaker comes down with a cold. Ouch. Shawn Weisfeld (Orlando .NET User Group leader) has 210 plus people registered for the event, the facility secured, food purchased, et cetera. The show must go on. So I am volunteered by Shawn for an early am Silverlight 1.0 talk, Bill Reiss (
http://www.bluerosegames.com/brg ) steps up, preps all night, and delivers a great session on Silverlight 2.0 during the late morning session, and RD Jon Goodyear (
http://www.angrycoder.com/angrycodercolumn.aspx ) spends - literally - all night overhauling his ASP.NET MVC materials. Brian Banville got to take care of the VS2008 installfest. So a special thanks goes out to Orlando .NET Community leader Shawn Weisfeld (
http://www.onetug.org )for coordinating this potential disaster, as well as Brian, Jon and Bill for stepping up large here. Couple flips of the fish to ya'll.
Jon, it almost gets you off the hook for being a Mac-ie.
