rssbandit under vista adventures
Posted on 2/7/2007 5:45:00 AM

Updated 2007/02/19 :: The 1.5.0.9 RC2 of RSSBandit installed fine on my Vista Enterprise. According to robmen it wasn't my machine after all but some custom actions RSSBandit was pushing in the installer. He and DareObasanjo worked it out and now I've got my blog reader back. Now to put it through its paces. Good stuff. Thanks Rob and Dare.

Update :: I'm giving up on RSSBandit I'm afraid. See http://www.rssbandit.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1734 for details, but essentially WIX guys say its my machine. I'm not going to dig into it. But.... RSSBandit is still the only program I haven't been able to install on my Vista Box (besides Kabza's nasty little firewall thingy). If you hit the DEP error installing RSSBandit I'd love to hear about it. jhealy@microsoft.com.

Trying to get the Jubilee version of RSSBandit installed onto Vista. I'm documenting various issues into the blog post here, and will update this post if/when I get resolution. I'm also going to use this post as a place I can send the forum up on http://www.rssbandit.org to. If I get updates on this I'll update this blog post.

Basic steps, download installer from here ( http://rssbandit.sourceforge.net/builds/RssBandit.1.5.0.5.Jubilee.RC.zip ), pull .msi out to downloads directory, open command prompt as admin (or regular user), run .msi, install for everyone (or just user), install progresses, then rolls back. Error messages fly and I get the DEP info window.

Try to disable WEP for installer via Sytem -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance -> Settings , reboot, try install.  Still a no go.

Screen shots below, then logfile extracts.
