VS Express session filled up the room last night
Posted on 5/24/2006 10:25:00 AM

Special thanks to all 58 of you who made my Express products talk last night in Tampa. I think we figured out the comfortable seating capacity of the Tampa Microsoft MPR room is really 50 without reshuffling the tables. We didnt' think the Express talk would be that popular. We had 60 register and normally get a 30% dropoff. Lesson learned.

Language breakout of the room was interesting. Zero J++ interest (seemed to be more when I showed then they could convert java classes to .net pretty easily with j++), three c++, then fairly evently split between VB and C#. 15 or so folks had already pulled Visual Web Express. No one had pulled any of the other Express SKUs. Didn't appear anyone was aware of the SQL Reporting Services or Full Text Search being available for SQL Express either.  More info on that here.

I especially liked Nikita Polyakov's idea of fusing the BlackJack Game Starter kit with the Commerce Starter Kit (paypal) to create your own online casino. Leave it to Nikita!

Good time at Crabby Bill's on the Causeway for the Geek Laager afterwards. Tampa Bay is beautiful this time of year.

I was impressed with the number of first time user group folks that came out for this talk. If you are a first time user group attendee, and you have some idea for sessions to help you get going on Express past this one, please email me at jhealy@microsoft.com

Watch for Tampa Bay Outcasts registration and agenda for the week of June 12-17.
